What kinds of fish are in Limerick Lake?
Large and small mouth bass, lake trout, and pan fish such as rock bass and perch.

What is the limit on bass?
For answers to more technical questions about catch and size limits of all fish, Limerick Lake is located in MNR zone 15 which appears on pages 68 to 77 of the Fishing Ontario regulations book. Note that neighboring lakes such as Weslemkoon and Moira are in zone 18 and as of 2014 have significantly different regulations than zone 15.
When is the best time to catch fish?
Lake trout are most active in the 2 weeks following ice out in the spring. This is generally the last week of April and first week of May. While many fishermen want to be on the water on the opening day of bass season in late June, more fish, and typically bigger fish, are caught a few weeks later in mid to late July.
Does Limerick Lodge sell fishing licenses?
Fishing licenses can be purchased at Canadian Tire stores, as well as several sporting goods stores in Madoc (to the south) and Bancroft (to the north). Trudy's store on Hwy 62 no longer sells fishing licenses. Fishing licenses can be purchased on-line through the MNR website, and Limerick Lake Lodge staff are glad to assist you with the process of purchasing your license on-line.
What kind of fishing tackle should I bring?
A medium weight spinning pole with 6 to 10 pound test line and a bait casting pole with 12 to 20 lb test line will cover most situations. A boat pole for trolling with 200 yards or more of wire or lead core line is needed for lake trout fishing.
What are they biting on?
This changes with the time of year, but in the past few seasons, Berkeley Gulp seems to be a consistent favorite. Various colors and riggings of rubber worms work well too.
Does the marina store sell live bait?
The store sells worms, but not minnows or frogs. The permits and licensing fees to sell such bait have become prohibitively expensive. Other fishing tackle is available in the store.
Trails and Riding FAQs
Can I ride my ATV into or out of Limerick Lodge?
Yes, Limerick Lake Lodge is located about 1 Km east of the Hastings Heritage Trail, Km marker 104, on Limerick Lake Road. For those who stay here, there is a large parking lot for unloading your machines and parking your trailer.
Is riding on the roads around Limerick Lodge legal?
Limerick Township allows ATVs and UTVs to be ridden on municipal roads consistent with provincial regulations.
Are Trail Permits Available?
Yes, Limerick Lodge sells the EOTA "Gold Trail Permit" for use on the province's trail network. The latest edition trail maps are available.
Is Limerick Lodge open for snowmobiling?
Limerick Lodge is typically open for several weekends of winter activities in February and early March. Check the news pages regularly for opening and closing dates during the winter months.
Can I horseback ride in the area?
Horseback riding is an approved use of many of the trails. Riders and their horses are welcome at Limerick Lodge.
Is Limerick Lake Lodge open for hunting?
The housekeeping cabins are open until approximately October 15th. The lodge is open until November 29th. The lake usually begins to freeze and the launch ramp becomes un-usable around November 15th.
What is available to hunt?
Waterfowl of all types, upland game birds such as grouse and partridge, rabbits, bear, and white tail deer.
Where can I hunt?
There is a large wetlands directly in front of the lodge property. There are also other wetlands around the chain of lakes. The Lodge owns 53 acres of water access only mixed forest land on the north west shore of Limerick Lake that is also available to hunt.
What WMU is Limerick Lake in?
Highway 62 divides WMU 60 from 61. Limerick Lake is in WMU 61.
Does Limerick Lodge sell hunting licenses?
No, licenses must be purchased before reaching Limerick Lodge for hunting. Chris's Live Bait on Hwy 7 just east of Marmora sells hunting licences. Chesher's Sporting Goods on Hwy 62 just south of Bancroft also sells licenses.
FAQs About the Lakes
Is there camping on the lake?
Limerick Lake Lodge has several campsites. There are no other organized campsites on the lake. There are several common use campsites located on Crown or lumber company property on the lake, but they are not official, or approved campsites.
Can I get to the other lakes by boat?
Limerick Lake is part of a 5 lake chain of lakes that are all navigable by motor boat.
Can I drink the lake water?
The Cottager's Association tests the lake water regularly, and in the vast majority of cases, the tests show the lake to be fit to drink. It is not recommended however. Treated well water and bottled water are available at the marina store.
Is there a horsepower or speed limit on Limerick Lake?
No, boats of all sizes and horse powers may be used.
Can I explore the lake in a canoe?
Many visitors use canoes on the lake. As with any larger lake with open expanses of water, the lake can become dangerously rough on windy or stormy days.
Is it a good sailing lake?
There is a wide range of sailboats used on the lake. The prevailing south-west winds in the summer provide plenty of fun for sailors of all experience levels.
When is the best time to visit for fall foliage viewing?
Plan a fall leaf watching trip for the last week of September or the first week of October. The date of peak colors varies each year, but the leaves are usually past their prime by Thanksgiving weekend this far north.
Is there a public lunch ramp at Limerick Lodge?
There is a launch ramp with gravel surface and shallow incline that is easy for launching boats up to approximately 22 feet in length. There is a $5 fee for use of the launch ramp. You do not have to be a lodge guest or marina customer to use the launch ramp and parking lot.
Is there a place to leave my boat overnight?
Even though the marina is full to capacity with seasonal rentals, there are 2 slips available for overnight rental. They are covered and have electricity. Reservations are suggested. If the slips are already taken, boats may be parked on their trailer in the main parking lot overnight.
Are rental boats available?
Rental boats are available by the hour, day or week. You do not have to be a guest at the lodge to rent a boat. Boats are 14 foot Princecraft or Starcraft fishing boats with 9.9hp motors. They are capable of carrying up to 3 adults, and are ideal for the type of fishing available on Limerick Lake. A boat operator's card IS required to rent a boat at Limerick Lake Lodge and Marina. The test to obtain an operator's card may be taken in the marina store.
Does the marina have a beach?
There is no beach at the facility. There are a number of good swimming locations around the lake, but they must be reached by boat.
What does a cabin rental include?
Cabins have 2 bedrooms and a kitchen. The kitchen has all utensils, dishes, pot, pans and so forth for 4 people. Linens and towels are NOT included in the published price, but can be ordered at a slight additional cost.
Are pets welcome?
Pets are welcome in the housekeeping cabins and campsites. Pets must be kept somewhat under control as there is a leash law ordinance in Limerick Township.
Do the lodge rooms have private bath?
The 9 rooms in the lodge share ladies and mens washroom facilities.
Do you serve alcohol?
No, however, Limerick Lodge is a very BYOB friendly resort. The convenience store has ice, mixers, and other supplies for cocktail hour. The lodge provides guests with glass wear and corkage at no charge. There are LCBO stores and Brewers Retail outlets in Madoc, Coe Hill, and Bancroft. In addition, there is an LCBO outlet with a limited selection at Trudy's General Store at the corner of Hwy. 62 and the St. Ola Road which is just a 5 minute drive from the Lodge.
Is this a good place to bring small children camping?
The facility is not the best place for children who are too young to enjoy boating or fishing. Once children reach the age where they are excited to get in the boat and catch pan fish, it is a great place to bring them to experience the outdoors.
Bicycling the area
Are you on a paved road?
No, Limerick Lake Lodge is approximately 2.5km off highway 62 on gravel roads. It is not recommended to ride in on a road bike. It is however easily accessible off km 104 of the Hastings Heritage Trail if you are riding a mountain bike. There is ample vehicle parking at $5 per day for non-guests, free for overnight guests.
What security is provided?
Bike stands for locking your bicycle are currently being installed and should be complete by July 15, 2017. In the meantime this is a very low crime area and bikes may be brought into the main lodge or locked to the railing at the marina store.
What other amenities are provided?
A basic metric tool kit is available for repairs. Compressed air to 100psi. Free drinking water from a tested ’small drinking water’ system. And rest rooms. There is a convenience store at the water’s edge that sells beverages and snacks. There is free wifi, and public use computers with the ability to print for 25 cents per page.

How many Tesla charging stations are at Limerick Lake Lodge?
Two, one near the marina store and one near the main lodge.
What charge capacity are they?
What vehicles are they compatible with?
The stations were supplied by Tesla and have Tesla compatible connectors.
Can anyone use them?
Yes, they are available free of charge to any Tesla driver.
When are they accessible?
24/7 from May through December. Access may be limited in winter months due to snow and plowing of the road and parking lot.
How far is it to the closest town? What town is that?
The town of Bancroft is approximately 19 miles / 30kms.
Is there a restaurant close by?
The Hideaway restaurant in Coe Hill is about a 15 minute drive.
Is there a grocery store near by?
The marina has a convenience store with those items that are needed by guests most frequently. Bancroft has 2 major grocery stores, Foodland and No Frills.
What else is there to do in the area?
There are a myriad of activities that go on each year. The area is primarily known for the Rockhound Gemboree and rock-hounding, and for its proximity to Algonquin Park. The best source for information about activities in the area is the Bancroft and District Chamber of Commerce at 613-332-1513.
How do I get to Limerick Lake?
